Refurbished after the widespread Sheffield floods of 2007, the Gardeners Rest reopened as a real ale pub.
In April 2017, a local community group purchased the pub to run it for the benefit of the wider community. The group is called the Gardeners Rest Community Society (GRCS). We want the pub to be vibrant and to build upon the great foundation we inherited from the previous owners. What does that mean? Well, we've added a kitchen to serve light snacks (not meals!), we're doing more music and performing art. Generally, we want to use the space more fully for the benefit of our community, while creating a great space for people to have a drink in.

Local drinkers who are members of the Campaign for Real Ale have voted the Gardeners Rest at Neepsend as their Real Ale Pub of the Month for October. The Pub of the Month awards are designed to highlight pubs in the area that serve good beer in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. The Gardeners Rest certainly qualifies on all counts, with well kept beers from Timothy Taylors brewery plus a number of changing guest beers from microbreweries across Britain, served by Pat, Eddy & staff who always have time for a chat, with equally friendly regulars. The pub has three rooms, the main lounge, which often has art displays on the walls, the non-smoking snug and the conservatory. The certificate will be presented at the pub on the evening of Friday 14th October, from 8PM.
The Gardeners Rest in Neepsend is holding a special exhibition entitled "The Changing Face Of Neepsend" until April 28th. They're also offering free games of billiards every Monday in April. On April 23rd there will be a special St George's Day quiz and traditional English music. Finally, on Friday 26th April Lindsay Galloway will be performing an accounstic set at 9PM.

A gem! Always on my must-visit list. Quirky, friendly, great selection of ales and a pleasant way to while away an hour or two.

Brilliant old fashioned pub. Fantastic selection of real ales, genial hosts, very friendly, great live music, bar billiards. If you're lucky you will see kingfishers up and down the river in the beer garden. Oh, watch out for the purple lady!
Will be re-visiting this great little pub in October again.

Pat and Eddy are not strangers to this award; their continuing success is due to the popularity of the Gardeners and quality of service they give. Timothy Taylor's is the House beer, their well-kept Landlord supported by up to nine other rotating beers and porters.
You can savour the atmosphere of the snug, which is also the smoke free room, the lounge or the conservatory (available for private parties and meetings), while in fair weather; the beer garden overlooks the River Don.
The bar area is also smoke free and in keeping with the increasing trend, swearing is not tolerated.
Another unique feature of the pub is the conservation theme - The Gardeners Rest hatched and reared a batch of trout, before releasing them into the Don.
Regular activities include their popular Quiz Night on a Sunday, music, provided by local artists on Thursdays and Saturdays, the popular Bar Billiards.
The Gardener's is also host to various clubs, including chess, amateur dramatics, local history and many others.
A very unique feature of this splendid pub is the various maps which adorn the walls showing were some people have travelled from to partake in a quick beverage.
Always a popular venue, we hope you can come along to enjoy the evening with us, if not go along as soon as you can.
