The Nottingham House is temporarily closed for a significant refurbishment. Located in the bustling area of Broomhill, this popular establishment has been a staple of the community for years, known for its cosy atmosphere and traditional pies. However, as of late July, the doors have been shut as workers undertake a series of improvements.
The closure began at the end of July and is expected to last for five weeks, with the pub slated to reopen on Friday 30th August. A banner at the site and a blackboard message near Whitham Road have informed patrons of the closure. While the temporary closure might inconvenience regulars, the pub's owner, Cathal Langan, assures that the changes being made will enhance the overall experience.
The most significant change being undertaken is an extension of the kitchen. According to Mr. Langan, this expansion will enable the pub to serve food more efficiently, allowing customers to receive their orders faster than before. This improvement is particularly welcome, as Nottingham House is known for its quality food offerings.
In addition to the kitchen upgrade, structural work is being carried out in the pub's toilet facilities. These updates are part of the broader effort to improve the overall infrastructure of the venue.
Although the pub is undergoing a refurbishment, Mr. Langan has confirmed that there won't be any drastic changes to the interior's look and feel. The same colour scheme will be retained, ensuring that the character of the Nottingham House remains intact. However, patrons can expect a refreshed and revitalised atmosphere when they return.
The temporary closure of Nottingham House for refurbishment might be disappointing for those who frequent the pub, but the planned improvements promise a better experience once it reopens. With an expanded kitchen, updated facilities, and a refreshed interior, the Nottingham House is set to continue as a go-to when in Broomhill.
The pub previously called the Fitzooth & Firkin in Broomhill is now called the Nottingham House.

Update. One of the previous bar staff has now taken over the lease of this much loved traditional local from the short-lived and not too popular recent holder. This is a great improvement. The beer is decent, with at least one local brew (currently Abbeydale Moonshine) and THE PIES ARE BACK! Locally made ones - all at £5.95 including chips or mash and mushy peas.

This used to be an apparently thriving student/local pub but, as it closed down over the summer, presumably it wasn't doing quite as well as it seemed!
It has now re-opened with new owners and has eventually started serving real ale and food again. However prices have increased significantly, and while they did re-introduce the excellent "Albert's pies" albeit at higher prices, a recent Friday lunchtime trip revealed that these have now been replace by a cheap commercial variety - still at the same price as Albert's pies under the previous management!
While I haven't been in the evening, the pub was almost deserted on the 2 Friday lunch times I have been. This is not altogether surprising, as prices are high for students but the current food quality isn't likely to appeal to clientele with deeper pockets.
