Very welcoming staff. Great dark, moody decor which creates a lovely relaxing ambience.
We had duck and lamb, which were both delicious!
We paid our compliments to the new chef, Daniel (also of Butcher and Catch). He came over for a chat and gave us some excellent cooking tips! He says the menu is about to change, so I'm sure it will be fabulous!
We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Recently reopened after being shut for about 2 months. Stancill Brewery took it on and gave it a lick of paint and some new flooring but neglected to give attention to the bar. Tatty old furniture, too. Still looks grubby on entry... first impressions and all that!
Bar staff are tops, but time'll tell. Good luck and hopefully the Grindstone will be a great pub again.

Went for a meal on a Monday evening. They had sold out of most of the food on the menu, had to have a chicken dish which was the toughest chicken I've ever eaten. The staff were really apologetic and very nice though.
Returned a few weeks later for a birthday meal wanting to give it a second chance. It was a Saturday night and there were only two staff behind the bar, and one delivering the food. Needless to say they were rushed off their feet. Long waiting times at the bar - fifty minutes for a starter to come out. Half of the food wasn't on the order. We were told they had sold out of most things. Ordered the mains, they had no steaks left. Most of the main courses had sold out as well. Very, very disappointing, as once again the staff were lovely, but it seems that the management quite simply do not order enough stock to meet demand.
Will not be returning nor recommending the Old Grindstone.

Went in last night for the first time in ages.
Decor is lovely now that it's been refurbished. Very warn and welcoming. Staff were lovely and the food menu is great. Really cheap but good portions and good quality. We had the Yorkshire wrap. Drinks good value, too. Fantastic. Going again tonight!

I have been going here for a number of years, with my daughter, then suddenly told, I wasn't allowed in as children are not allowed after 7PM.
Although I will never set foot in the pub again, it is a pleasant enough place, with a good selection of beers.
