News for Miners Arms:

  • The Miners Arms, a well-known pub in Dronfield Woodhouse near Sheffield, has temporarily closed its doors to undergo a significant £310,000 refurbishment. The popular Carr Lane venue, which has long been a staple of the local community, is set to receive a complete transformation under the guidance of its new landlord, Jon Church.

Jon, a seasoned pub manager with over 20 years of experience in the Derbyshire and South Yorkshire regions, has taken over the Miners Arms, marking his first venture as a pub owner. Hailing from Meadowhead, Jon has spent the past 18 months searching for the perfect pub, eventually deciding on the Miners Arms after visiting around 40 different venues. "When I pulled up outside The Miners Arms, I knew it was 'the one'. It's in a bit of a state now, but the investment will transform it. I want it to be a proper pub that serves the needs of the whole community," Jon said.

The refurbishment, which commenced on August 20th, will see the pub closed for a month as it undergoes extensive renovations. The project, managed by Heineken's Star Pubs, aims to rejuvenate the tired and dated venue, transforming it into a top-quality, traditional local pub that is both warm and welcoming.

The external renovations will include redecorating the pub's old stone façade, updating the signage, and enhancing the large garden with new planting and furniture. Inside, patrons can expect a smart new look with contemporary touches, including new furniture, flooring, and curtains, alongside decorative lighting to create a cosy atmosphere. The bar will be spacious, complemented by a snug and lounge area as well as designated dining spaces.

The kitchen will also see a complete refit, and the cellar will be equipped with state-of-the-art dispense equipment to ensure perfectly-poured pints. Additionally, energy-saving measures will be implemented to improve the pub's sustainability.

When the Miners Arms reopens in late September, it will offer a new menu focusing on traditional British pub fare. Customers can look forward to steak pies, fish and chips, Sunday roasts, and a variety of small plates designed for sharing. The pub will also introduce a children's menu, along with options for soup and sandwich lunches, afternoon coffee and cake, and Saturday morning brunch.

The drinks selection will be just as varied, featuring premium lagers, craft beers, cocktails, and a selection of interesting wines. Cask ales will be a highlight, with Jon aiming to achieve Cask Marque accreditation for their quality. A "try before you buy" option will also be available for those looking to sample the selection.

Jon's vision for the Miners Arms extends beyond just food and drink; he aims to create a true community hub. The pub will host a range of activities, including a weekly quiz, live music from local artists, and special events for occasions like Halloween and Christmas. Looking ahead to next summer, plans are already in place for barbecues, a cask ale festival, and family fun days. Sports fans will also be catered for, with the pub set to offer Sky and TNT Sports, screening major sporting events.

The Miners Arms is steeped in local history, believed to be named after the miners who once worked in the nearby lead mines. Jon is keen to connect with the community and is inviting anyone with knowledge of the pub's past or old photographs to get in touch.
