The Bay Horse is situated in the village of Scholes, near Rotherham. There is a large car park and beer garden along with grassed drinking areas. The internal area is open plan with a central bar and a dining area to the rear. The Bay Horse was CAMRA "Pub of The Season" for Summer 2005.

My husband and I were recommended this pub and decided to give it a try - which we did today.
We had the humongous Dan Pie (and believe you me it was) and thoroughly enjoyed the meal, it was excellent. The service was very good and staff very friendly. Next time if I have the pie I think I will take one of the grandchildren and share it.
Would definitely recommend the food here, very reasonable and plenty of it.
We were also the first Mr & Mrs to eat the pie and our certificate is No. 086 would be interested to see who gets the 100.
Thank you Dan & staff.

Had a great meal here last week.
Tried the belly pork from the specials board and it was fantastic.
My friend tried out the ostrich and he enjoyed that - he's a bit more adventurous than me!
Will certainly recommend it to my mates.
They have a good choice of real ales to satisfy us blokes - get the wife to drive so you can try out a few!

This is an excellent value country pub. Situated in Scholes village just a few minutes drive off the A629 Upper Wortley Road, which runs from Kimberworth to junction 35 of the M1. Also within easy reach of Chapeltown & Ecclesfield. Don't drive past & miss it - it's definitely worth a visit.
There is a good choice on the menu and the food is excellent value for money. You always get large portions. If you manage to polish off the Desperate Dan pie meal you receive a certificate - starve yourself a couple of days in advance for this one! Food is served Monday - Saturday 5:30PM - 8:30PM (last food orders around 8:15PM so don't turn up late or you will be disappointed) & Sunday lunches are available 12PM - 5PM. Always really busy Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights so recommend maybe giving it a try Monday - Wednesday when you will have a better choice of table.
In the winter months they have lovely coal fires burning. Have been in on occasions when they have some unusual choices on the specials board - recently there was shark steak. Never had a bad meal there and been on many occasions. Also booked a party in at Christmas last year - excellent value for money - you are not rushed away from the table, as once you confirmed your booking they guaranteed you the table for the whole night so we took advantage of that and had a good night all round. I believe they can also offer special menus for parties, funerals, weddings etc and that they will consider opening the pub outside of normal hours if you have a special event you want catering for - overheard someone booking a party on a recent visit and they appeared very accommodating.
It may not look like a fancy venue from outside (I may possibly have driven straight past it if it hadn't been recommended to me) but the quality of food is definitely worth a visit.
