Revisited this pub after 12 years absence from Sheffield and happy to say the very good standards that I remember have been maintained. The food is still of good quality and good value. The service is of a high standard, nothing is any trouble to the friendly barmaid. Will be returning.

This rubbish about this pub smelling is false. It smells like a typical pub, beer and aftershave. The dog that only occasionally comes out is lovely. The landlord is the chef and I have never seen him drink. The food is lovely, and there's always a full plate, and at two for £5 it's a bargain. The lady serving is great also.

We come a few times a week. Come see for yourself and make your own opinion.

Look out for Carnival Day July 9th. We're hoping for as good a turn out as last year.

Hi all the customers at the Crown & Glove. The C&G has now got the best beer in the village, so customers say. Forget about all the jealous types who would like it for their own. The landlord is not always drunk but is trying to buy it as a free house. Watch this space.

I have recently visited the Crown & Glove at Stannington for the first time in a number of years and was totally shocked by the change to this once lovely pub.

As you walk in you are immediately confronted by the smell of the pub's dogs, followed by the dogs themselves. The landlord was totally drunk and using very offensive language. I talked to one or two of the locals about this and apparently it is a common occurrence. Also one of the dogs urinated on the seating.

It is such a shame this once lovely pub has descended to this level. I for one will not be returning until the present landlord has departed!

News for Crown & Glove:

  • The Crown & Glove, a historic stone-built pub located in the picturesque village of Stannington on the edge of the Peak District, is on the lookout for a new landlord. Punch, the pub management company, is seeking an individual with an outgoing and charismatic personality to take the helm of this thriving local and destination pub.

According to the job advertisement, the ideal candidate will have significant experience managing a busy kitchen and bar, with a focus on serving high-quality cask beer and delectable food. The role demands a landlord who is not only a skilled operator but also someone who takes pride in representing the pub within the community. A key aspect of the job is maintaining an understanding of local interests and ensuring the pub remains a central hub for the community.

The financial projections provided in the advertisement highlight a promising opportunity for potential landlords. The forecasted "wet" turnover, which includes beverages, is £329,507, while the food turnover is estimated at £98,800. These figures indicate a strong business that can offer substantial rewards to the right candidate.

The Crown & Glove has faced challenges in recent years, including a high turnover of managers. This has been a topic of discussion on local Facebook forums, where community members have expressed their hope for a stable and committed landlord who can bring consistency and longevity to the establishment.

For those considering this unique opportunity, it is crucial to recognise the importance of community engagement and the ability to adapt to the needs and preferences of local patrons. The Crown & Glove requires a landlord who can not only manage the day-to-day operations but also foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that resonates with both regulars and visitors.

With its strong financial prospects and the backing of a supportive community, the right landlord can thrive and make a lasting impact. If you have the big personality and the requisite experience, this could be the perfect role for you.
